“Our 2025-2030 focus is reducing energy poverty, combating climate change, and promoting social enterprises for women and youth through oil crop farming in Eastern Africa”

Ngece Rinjeu Foundation

Ngece Rinjeu Foundation (also referred to as Ngece Foundation) is a registered Non-Government, non-profit family-sponsored foundation with an aim of empowering youth and women through education, agriculture and green-entrepreneurship. NRF was founded in the year 2001, as an education and climate mitigation focused group that supported needy children in Kenya. It was formally registered as Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under the section 10 of the NGO Coordination Act, laws of the Republic of Kenya, in 2013; 12 years after formation.

Achievements and Our 2015-2032 Strategic Focus

Registered in 2013 as an NGO and later in 2025 as a Social Enterprise, Ngece Rinjeu Foundation has focused on reducing energy poverty, combating climate change, and promoting social enterprises for women and youth through oil crop farming. Between 2013 and 2022, we positively impacted over 250,000 families by distributing clean cookstoves, solar lamps, and biogas systems, planting more than 1.7 million trees, and supporting over 2,000 farmers across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania — collectively avoiding over 2 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions and strengthening sustainable livelihoods through regional partnerships.

Our 2025-2032 Strategic Focus

In the new 5-year strategy period, we want to create partnerships with like-minded organizations to contribute to reducing #energypoverty and be part of the enablers of attaining #sdg3, #sdg7, and #sdg13. We are developing multiyear projects for communities, with our partners, and our target is 500,000 solar lamps, 500,000 clean cooking clay jikos, 10 million trees, 200,000 e-cooking devices, and 2,000 biogas systems by 2025. Our research team is continually looking into new technologies, through our private arm, Ngece Rinjeu Technologies.

Our Programs

At the Ngece Rinjeu Foundation, our work is driven by practical, community-centered programs that empower women, youth, and children to build better lives while protecting the environment.

Ngece Rinjeu Rescue & Empowerment Centre

A safe space offering refuge, care, and empowerment for abandoned and vulnerable children in Tharaka Nithi and Meru Counties. The Centre also serves as an Innovation and Skills Hub, equipping youth with vocational and entrepreneurial skills to build better futures.

Women & Youth Enterprise Program

This program empowers women and youth through microfinance, table banking, and small enterprise support. By applying the merry-go-round savings model, participants access small loans and grants to start clean energy and agribusiness ventures — improving household incomes, education, and health outcomes.

Clean Energy for Education & Health Program

We promote clean, renewable energy technologies such as solar lanterns, biogas, and energy-efficient cookstoves. Through school- and community-based projects, we enhance access to lighting, clean cooking, and water purification — while reducing deforestation and carbon emissions.

Ngece Rinjeu Scholarship Fund

Education is at the heart of our mission. Through this fund, we support bright but financially challenged students to access quality education at both primary and tertiary levels. Our scholarships give hope and opportunity to children who would otherwise drop out due to poverty.
